Student Services

Robbinsdale Transition Center

The Robbinsdale Transition Center (RTC) is a special education program that serves young adults, ages 18-21 receiving special education services. Our students have a range of abilities and disabilities and need assistance in making the transition from school to life in the community. Students are referred to RTC by their attendance area high school.

RTC provides opportunities for students to expand their work and interpersonal skills, build self-esteem, and learn about self-acceptance and self-advocacy, as specified in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).

The program focuses on three special education transition areas:

  • Post-secondary education and training
  • Employment
  • Independent Living

RTC staff links students with community resources for the transition areas. Resources include secondary and post-secondary classes, rehabilitation services, social services, community cultural and recreational facilities.

To participate in this program, a student must:

  • Be within the ages of 18-21;
  • Be eligible for special education services;
  • The IEP team has determined continued transition needs exist.
